BELMONT

BELMONT

Belmont is a picturesque community just ten minutes from Charlotte in historic Gaston County, North Carolina. A mild year-round climate, gorgeous landscape, and a flourishing economy are just a few of the many reasons why the approximately 9,200 residents enjoy living in Belmont. Beautiful mountains highlight the topography of this small community. A turn of the century “model mill village” built by Stuart Cramer has become one of the premiere residential communities in the Charlotte-Metro area.

GASTONIA

GASTONIA

It is the county seat and largest city of Gaston County. The population was 66,277 according to the 2000 census (35% of the population of Gaston County). It is part of the Charlotte metropolitan area, officially designated the Charlotte-Gastonia-Concord Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA). As the second-largest city (in population) in the MSA after Charlotte, Gastonia has experienced steady growth, with a population change during the 1990s (according the US Census Bureau) of more than +10%.

Land grants were first issued in the Mount Holly area by King George II of Great Britain around 1750. In 1754, a land grant was issued to James Kuykendall of Holland in the locale known as Dutchman’s Creek. Later in 1838, a post office in the area was named Woodlawn. In 1875, the name of the town was changed to Mount Holly, after the Mount Holly Cotton Mill that was started that year. The name “Mount Holly” was used in recognition of the famed yarn made at a spinning mill in Mount Holly, New Jersey.

MCADENVILLE

MCADENVILLE

The quiet little town of McAdenville, which lies along the South Fork River in Gaston County, N.C., comes alive in spectacular fashion each year as Christmas draws near. Almost overnight, the small textile town is transformed into “Christmas Town, USA.”

 

CHARLOTTE

CHARLOTTE

Charlotte is a major city and commercial hub in North Carolina. Its modern city center (Uptown) is home to the Levine Museum of the New South, which explores post–Civil War history in the South, and hands-on science displays at Discovery Place. Uptown is also known for the NASCAR Hall of Fame, Charlotte Hornets, Carolina Panthers, and minior league baseball team Charlotte Knights.

Public and Private Options 

The local schools have historically ranked well in the State of North Carolina. There is a helpful School Comparison link that has the most up to date information on each individual schools'  performance. 

In addition to the Gaston County public school system, there are also a number of excellent private, magnet, and charter schools in Gaston County, as well as the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School System. Both Gaston Christian School and Gaston Day School have excellent accredited college preparatory programs that offer an alternative to the public school system. For gifted students, the Highland School of Technology is the county’s first magnet high school which provides students with a rigorous and relevant academic and technological education. The Piedmont Charter School located in downtown Gastonia provides an academically challenging curriculum for students while also promoting their emotional and character development. As you can see, Gaston County offers a diverse array of educational opportunities to choose from to meet the specific needs of your family.
